I got a text last night from my teenager.

They were just a few rooms away, of course.

It had a request and at the end of the request was the word please repeated about 20 times.

Did I say yes?

No I didn’t and here’s why. First I don’t think what they wanted is a good idea. They can always do it when they’re an adult.

Second multiple pleases and begging only hardens my opposition.
They forgot the golden rule of marketing. What’s in it for me? Not them.

Most marketing is like this. You’re begging clients to buy. You’re being needy.

Guess what it repels them.

So stop doing it. Stop right now.

The best marketing positions you as the prize and that means the client has to come to you.

The less you chase the more you sell.
