You can train yourself to come up with more ideas.

I believe everyone can become more creative.

You just need to understand how it works.

Creativity is just connecting things in new ways. It’s not mystical. It’s not hard.

But part of the process is outside your control. I’ll explain.

What you can control is feeding your brain everything it needs to be about the subject you’re looking for a breakthrough on.

You also need broad general knowledge. You can get that by reading widely.

Then you need to be as clear as possible about what you’re looking for. In my work it’s a fresh marketing angle that no one else is using.

Once you have all the brain input then spend a short time actively thinking about your challenge. Then stop.

Go about your day. Do anything you like, other than actively thinking about the challenge.

The more relaxed you can be, the better.

I suggest going for a walk. Or going to somewhere you don’t normally go.

Little nudges will come. You may even get a complete idea. Write it down immediately your brain won’t hold it for long. Keep open to more ideas. Your first one is rarely the best one.

Once you have an idea you think can work start working on applying it in the real world.

This last step is what separates you from 99% of the population who have ideas but fail to act on them.

The whole process should be fun. If it feels like work then you’re doing it wrong.

I hope you have some new ideas this week and that they make a massive difference for your business or personal life.
