Here’s why it’s your fault. But first know it’s OK and normal.

Your marketing is safe to ignore.

Anything that is safe to ignore, will be ignored.

It’s human nature.

If it isn’t new and different, forget it.

The potential customer is onto something else that’s more interesting.

I get you want to be safe.

But being ignored is dangerous.

Because eventually someone else comes along as does something interesting and gets the customer you should have got.

Every market is crying out for a business to stand out.

Customers want a reason to pay attention.

Customers want a reason to choose you over everyone else.

Your job is to give it to them.

Here’s one way to do it.

Ask yourself this. What is the most outlandish thing I could say or do in my marketing?

Assume there are no negative consequences, this is an exercise in creative thinking.

Go too far.

Then leave your idea(s) for a day or two.

Come back to them and see if you can add any more.

Then, and only then, run through the filter of how they would work in the real world.

Maybe you can run with the idea as is.

Maybe it needs to be dialled back a little before you run it.

It should scare you to run it.

Fortunes are made by the businesses that stand out.

You’re one great idea away from becoming the dominant marketer in your category.
